Values & Ethos

 

We take our trust values of Aspiration, Respect and Honesty very seriously. They underpin our routines, our curriculum, and what we strive to develop in our pupils. Alongside these values, Queens Park Academy celebrates six learning goals that encapsulate the attitudes that we feel will be essential in the 21st century.

Our Golden Rules

At Queen’s Park Academy we all follow our Golden Rules. These are displayed all over the school and we regularly have assemblies that focus on them. The children are rewarded for showing behaviours linked to the golden rules.

Our Golden Rules are:

Learning Goals and encouraging a Growth Mindset

Our 6 learning goals are central to everything we do in school.  The learning goals are: Resilience, Cooperation, Enquiry, Creativity, Excellence and Communication. We are committed to promoting and rewarding children’s learning rather than simply their achievements or ‘work’. This reflects our school motto ‘An Adventure in Learning Together’.

Children are recognised and congratulated throughout the school week when they actively demonstrate one or more of the learning goals. They receive a sticker to represent each learning goal. Children can demonstrate learning goals in a variety of ways: class based learning; home learning; sporting, musical or artistic achievements; competitions and learning challenges and behaviour. Head Teacher’s Awards also recognise children’s efforts towards achieving our school learning goals

Enquiry

  • Be able to ask and consider searching questions related to the area of study
  • Be able to plan and carry out investigations related to these questions
  • Be able to collect reliable evidence from their investigations
  • Be able to use the evidence to draw sustainable conclusions
  • Be able to relate the conclusions to wider issues

Resilience

  • Be able to stick with a task until it is completed
  • Be able to cope with the disappointment they face when they are not successful in their activities
  • Be able to try again when they are not successful in their activities

Communication

  • Be able to make their meaning plain using appropriate verbal and non-verbal forms
  • Be able to use a variety of tools and technologies to aid their communication
  • Be able to communicate in more than one spoken language
  • Be able to communicate in a range of different contexts and with a range of different audiences

Excellence

  • Be able to recognise excellence in themselves and others
