I have been a parent governor at Queens Park Academy for some years now. I currently have a son in year 3 and my daughter also attended from Reception through to year 4 before moving to Westfield. My association with Queens Park goes back a very long way in that I grew up here and attended what was then Queens Park Infants School and Queens Park Junior School. I became a parent governor to take an interest not only in my children's education but to support the school in helping the children to achieve their potential (whatever it may be). I still live locally and now that I have given up my daily commute to London I can pay more regular visits to the school. If you have any questions or concerns I can often be found walking laps in the playground to help Denmark class with their weekly lap total!
I love being a governor at Queens Park, the children and staff are great and my fellow Governors come from such a wide variety of backgrounds that together we can provide that right balance of support and challenge. My background is in education - I am now retired but taught Business Studies at secondary level and then was Deputy Director at Bedfordshire Education Business Partnership with responsibility for the Children's University and Summer College amongst other projects. At Queens Park I am the link governor for SEND working with Holli Smith and have the extra privilege of working with groups of children to support their reading. In addition I have helped in the setting up Friends of Queens Park Academy and I look forward to working with more parents and staff to make treasured memories of school life at Queens Park for all our children.
