Summer Term 2016

End of Year Celebration 

On Wednesday 20th July the staff of QPA organised an afternoon of fun events and actvities that our children and parents could enjoy. The activities included face painting, Balloon modelling, an obsticle course and throw a sponge at the teacher. We all had loads of fun. Look at the pictures below. 

Year 5s Support the Police in the the Bedford River Festival

The children in Year 5 have been working with the Police for about a month. They have been preparing for the Bedford River Festival Parade. These are the pictures of the children participating in the festival. Don't they look fantastic?

3rd Place in the Cecil Higgins Harper Trust competition 

Asim in Year 5 was awarded 3rd place in catorgory 1 (7-11 years) The Harper Trust Art competition was to mark thier 450years. The competition, which has been running since September has seen more than 1200 entries from over 50 schools. The theme of the competition was 'recording Bedford'. Asim's entry, named 'Autumn Decoration' will be displayed in the Art Gallery at Cecil Higgins for July and August. for more inforamtion about the competition see this website http://www.harpurtrust.org.uk/450th/art-competition/ 

Healthy Eating Week 

Monday 13th June - Friday 17th June 2016

All of the children across the school took part in a number of activities linked to leading a healthy lifestyle.  The children learnt about drinking enough water, eating breakfast, doing enough exercise and eating 5 a day. 

Year 3 & 4 WOW day 

Friday 10th June 2016

To kick off the 'Health and Fitness' topic the children rotated around a number of activities which encouraged them to think about staying healthy. They learnt about germs and the effect they have on our health, they learnt a Bhangra dance and they completed some exercises on the field. They also completed health checks on one another. Look at the fun they had! 

Year 3 & 4 WOW Exit Space

Thursday 26th May 2016

Everybody enjoyed sharing the learning we have been doing with their families as part of the WOW exit. The children took part in Astronaut training and as well as alien building. They also had to build space ships to send Blip, our alien friend home.

It was a fun filled day that everyone enjoyed. Take a look at the pictures below.

Year 3 & 4 Trip to the Space Centre

Thursday 12th May 2016

All of the children on went to the National Space Centre in Leicester. We had an amazing day and all of the children enjoyed the experience thoroughly. When we asked the children they said the best bots were 'The Planetarium' and the 'Space simulator'. Look at the fun we had!  

 

Choir Trip to Retirement Living, Queens Park

Wednesday 11th May

On Wednesday 11th May the children in the Choir visited a residential home in Queens Park. The children sang some of their favourite songs and the residents thoroughly enjoyed the event.

Year 5 trip to the Crystal

Wednesday 27th April 2016

The year 5 children went to the Crystal building in London. This building is deemed one of the most sustainable buildings in the world. The trip is linked to the topic 'What Price Progress'. Staff on the trip said the children were a credit to the school and showed interest and curiosity. To look at more of what the Crystal does look at the website  https://www.thecrystal.org

 

Switzerland Class Assembly 

Tuesday 19th April 2016

Switzerland class did there assembly focused on Space. Lots of parents came to see what the children have been learning. There was loads of facts shared and beautiful work on display.

 

Year 1 WOW day

Wednesday 13th April 2016

On Wednesday 13th April the children in year 1 started their holidays topic with an amazing WOW day. They completed lots of different activities including making camp sites, experiencing underwater worlds writing postcards. The children cam in dressed as though they were off on their holidays as well.

Sports Week 2016

20th - 24th June 2016

Terrible weather didn't stop the children from having a fantastic week. Children across the school took part in cricket, football, climbing wall, Karate and navigating the inflatables.

The week culminated in Sports day for keystage 1 and 2.  The children also created an amazing exhibition in the hall focusing on a number of famous sports people. A huge thank you goes to Mrs Minhas and Mr Frith for organising all the events and visitors. We have also just been awarded the Silver Sports Mark again. Well done!

Year 4 and 5 Camp at Shuttleworth 

Thursday 16th June - Friday 17th June

Thirty five children from across the year 4 and 5 year groups went on the annual residential. This year we went to Shuttleworth in Old Warden. The children experienced rafted canoeing, crate stacking, archery as well as a guided animal tour and camp fire. They children all made damper bread and cooked it over the fire. They pitched their own tents and and braved the sometimes showery weather. A big thank you goes to all the teachers that stayed over as well. Look at the amazing pictures... 

Year 5 Police Visit 

Wednesday 8th June 

Children in Year 5 are helping Bedfordshire Police this year during the River Festival. The police came to school on Wednesday to talk about the work they do and create resources that the children will be using using the parade. They even bought a police car and children got to experience the VERY loud siren as well and handling the equipment the police use on a daily basis. 

Year 3 Roald Dhal Workshops 

Tuesday 8th June and Wednesday 9th June 

Each of the year 3 classes went to the university of Bedfordshire and took part in workshops focused on the work of Roald Dhal. The event allowed the children the opportunity to hear some extracts of his stories and carry out some drama also. Everyone had a fantastic time. 

RE Day - Summer term

Friday 27th May 2016

Children in Keystage 2 took part in an RE day where they looked at 'How and why believers show their commitments during the journey of life'. The children took part in a number of activities including exploring the different ceremonies that take place in different religions when babies are born.

Year 4 English Speaking Union Competition

Tuesday 3rd and 10th May

For the last month 12 children from across year 4 have been learning about the art of debating. On Tuesday the children took part in a competition against other lower and primary schools in Bedford debating important issues. The children from QPA put forward the argument that the internet is more important than books. Here are the children that participated on the 10th May 2016. Well done to everyone!

Queens Park Art Day

Friday 22nd April 2016

All of the children in Queens Park took part in an Art day focusing on art skills. The children focused on a different artist in each year group. These included Jackson Pollock and Vincent Van Gough. Each year group used different materials to create a final piece of work. They also became art critics at the end of the day. Take a look at the pictures below to see all the amazing things we created.

 

Year 5 WOW day

Thursday 14th April 2016

The Year 5 children started their topic of 'What Price Progress?' with a WOW day on Thursday 14th April. The children dissected flowers and then spent some time working on a soil sample. The children said it was 'great fun!' despite some children being worried about disturbing an ants nest in the process.

 

Year 2 WOW day

Friday 15th April 2016

The Year 2 children became Travel Agents during their WOW day on Friday 15th April. They also dressed in their best holiday clothes.
